Davide Ragazzi, Enceladus, 2020
Davide Ragazzi's Cosmo Art, is an approach to depicting planets and moons begins with the study of satellite photographs, reinterpreting them according to his visual code.
The subject of this work is Enceladus, one of Saturn's six moons. The satellite has a diameter of 500 km. Its surface is covered with a layer of fresh snow hundreds of meters thick. This surface is caused by the activity of approximately 100 cryovolcanoes located at the south pole, which emit geyser-like jets of water vapor, sodium chloride, and ice particles at speeds of 200 km/s. Some of the vapor falls back onto the moon as snow; the rest reaches space and forms Saturn's ring. The snow layer makes it one of the most reflective bodies in the solar system. A large underground ocean about 10 km thick has been detected at the south pole. The moon was discovered in 1789 by William Herschel and has been the object of space exploration, with the Voyer 1 and 2 spacecrafts, in 1980 and 1981, and the Cassini spacecraft, in 2005.
