Artist Davide Ragazzi, since 1993, explored the possibilities of integration between ancient and modern medium: manuscripts, calligraphy, collage, prints, photocopies and paintings. The choice of media, the visual compositions, the colors, and the hues, both in paintings and large-scale installations, evoke a mediation between past and present.
In this work, the artist reproduces the Moon with metallic-based acrylic paints, such as steel, silver, iron, and bronze, on an ancient calligraphic manuscript that features gaps, imperfections, folds, and signs of time. The rapid, expert brushstroke interacts with the calligraphic part of the support. The choice of colors gives substance to the pictorial portion without transcending the communication of the manuscript.
